Our Tradition

In 1893, George Fairchild was the founder of what would become Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel. In 1925, B. Abbott Meech and George Fairchild joined together. After World War II Donald Meech, son of Abbott Meech, also became involved in the tradition. Now the family business is run by Bradley A. Meech, grandson of B. Abbott Meech.

Bradley, a DeWitt resident, is a graduate of the Simmons Institute of Funeral Service. He is a past president of the South Side Businessman Association, a past Potentate of Tigris Temple, a Mason of Fayetteville Central City Lodge #305 F&AM, and finally a member of the DeWitt Kiwanis Club. His wife, Deborah, has aided him in much of the administrative area of the business. Bradley and Deborah have two children: a son Jeffrey, an aerospace engineer, who works for Lockheed Martin Washington D.C., and a daughter Sarah, who works for TAP Pharmaceutical Company and lives in Stamford, Conn.

Terry D. Wheat has been a funeral director associated with Fairchild & Meech Funeral Chapels for over 30 years. He is also a graduate of the Simmons Institute of Funeral Service. He is a past master of the Fayetteville Central City Lodge #305 F&AM and also a past president of the Kiwanis Club. He and his wife, Lynda, reside in the Town of Camillus.
